Benjamin Walker Benjamin Walker (1797-1867) and Elizabeth V. (Betsy) Henshaw (1793-1851)
Benjamin and Betsy Henshaw Walker were the parents of Lucy Henshaw Walker Sanford who married Lawrence Sanford, Jr. and lived at Newington. Their home was called “Oak Grove” and was located almost directly across the road from Newington in the Everona community of Orange County. This home no longer stands and Battlefield Greenhouses is located on the site. Benjamin and Betsy had at least eight children as listed in the Sanford family Bible: Mary Walker (1819- ? ) married Mr. Dunn After the death of Betsy, Benjamin married as his second wife Fannie Blackwell and there was one child born to them. She was Ella Rice Walker who married a Halsey. Note: Some of you older Sanfords will remember Cousin Mary Halsey Brockman, Cousin Joe, Cousin Ogden and maybe some more Halseys. They were all grand children of Benjamin and Fannie Blackwell. Many years ago Ben Sanford and I visited Cousin Mary and it was she who gave us the tin-type picture of her grand father, Benjamin Walker, which is copied in these papers. He was Ben Sanford’s great, great, grandfather and the source of the names Benjamin and Walker in the Sanford family today.
